English Homestay with Renée

Are you seeking ways to expose your child to English outside of the home?

Does your child go to an international school, and you are looking for some fun extracurricular activities?

Here at Kiyomizu House, in addition to the huge traditional Japanese style home and gardens, we have a collection of thousands of picture books, graded readers and a wide range of teaching tools to suit various ages, interests and levels.

After 28 years in academia, focused primarily on young learner literacy development, Renée sought a different kind of environment and style to promote children's language development.

She is happy to offer short homestays for children and families in this very unique setting.

Kiyomizu House is set up as a full-amenity vacation home, so we have all the equipment we need to cook, play inside and out and engage in English activities without the distractions of everyday household responsibilities and items that would be around if a family were living there.

Enjoy games, puzzles and crafts, as well as developmentally appropriate learning activities.

Being from a large family in California, Renée grew up making flower arrangements and hors d'oeuvres for their 30+ Sunday family gatherings. She loves having people over and socializing. And, after so many years in the classroom, it's hard to get her to stop laughing and chatting

In 2016 she and her husband, Motoyasu, decided to purchase a property in order for her to offer an alternative environment for learning English than a typical school or language school. They decided on Kiyomizu House because of the massive amount of connected tatami rooms (48 mats!) in addition to the huge entry (now a play room and library), kitchen/dining, "engawa" sunroom halls that they use for study desks, and the massive yard. They are delighted to share this spectacular, historic home with you and support your efforts to raise your children bilingually / multilingually.

Thank you, Renée, for playing with my children in English during our stay. I've been looking for a place to send my children for an English homestay in Japan.

It seems like Kiyomizu House would work well.
